Nib Smoothing Workshop in London, Ontario, Canada

Thank you so very much for your excellent nib tuning workshop! I felt as though I had gotten my money's worth within the first 10 minutes. Your hands-on workshop was very fun, and your information was delivered with clear, well-organized details that will ensure that I know what I'm doing and why when I adjust my pens. The nib tuning kit was most appreciated. I highly recommend your workshop to novices and seasoned fountain pen enthusiasts alike.

DC Pelikan Hubs

A highlight from the Pelikan Hub was getting this music nib up and writing nicely. JC @thenibtailor was so patient with tuning it to write for my hand. I was super impressed he inspected my writing as well as the nib to see where things were going wrong.

Writing with the nib these past 2 days has been a completely different and pleasant experience! I'm thrilled.

Fountain Pen Day at Penny Post

So, we know JC to be a killer nibmeister, as seen with the amazing Naginata grind he did on a recent pen of mine. But then I asked him to simply tune a black ruthenium layered nib because it wasn't writing well. This nib has become my daily writer because it starts immediately every time. What I thought might be a simple smooth and tune is actually what JC perfects each time he works on a nib. Thank you, dear friend, for making my writing experience!

WASHINGTON POST: Beyond the keyboard: Fountain pen collectors find beauty in ink

A mechanical, not unpleasant buzz ran underneath the constant talk of vermilion ink and vintage Watermans. The sound came from grinding, as craftspeople shaped fountain pen nibs for customers. Individuality and customization matter to pen aficionados, said nibmeister JC Ament of Arlington, Va., whose company is called Nib Tailor. “A fountain pen is obsolete technology,” he said. “It’s not a necessity. You want it to be a very tactile thing. It’s a talisman.”

PEN ADDICT: Skogsy Pens Cholla Micarta Fountain Pen Review, Featuring Nib Tailor Architect Grind

“I’ve had this pen in regular use since returning from San Francisco, and it puts a smile on my face every time I use it. It’s that nice, and I made it even nicer, for me, with the addition of an Architect grind on the Medium steel Jowo nib I chose when purchasing this pen.

When I sat down with JC Ament, aka the Nib Tailor, I knew I wasn’t going with one of my standards (Stub, Cursive Italic, Needlepoint,) and wanted something cool, befitting this cool pen. I settled on a traditional Architect grid, and JC absolutely nailed it. My most-used Architect grind is more of a mini-style, befitting my small handwriting, so having this more traditionally-sized nib has been great.”

The Nib Tailor worked on two pens for me. One was a medium-to-an-architect grind, and the other was tuning of an extra fine Sailor nib that was so scratchy and dry, I was ready to toss it! It is now smooth and so much better! Better ink flow. JC is responsive and accommodating. I would not hesitate to send more pens to him! Thanks, JC!

THANKS for skilled nibsmithing AND inky courtesy
Thx for being one of the good ones
LOVE my nibs, which is all I really meant to say in the first place. Plus you were fun to hang out with and appropriately ocd (in a good natured way) about getting the grinds right!

Bertram’s Inkwell In-Store Event

“JC worked on my Armando Simoni Club Nefertiti fountain pen with a #8 nib at Bertram's Inkwell about 10 days ago. I was reluctant since I've only used a nib meister once years ago (not JC) and my fine point was converted to a medium point by mistake. However, JC did an exceptional job on this pen. It was a very wet nib that wrote a medium/broad line. I tried various inks without much improvement. JC fixed the nib so that it writes as a fine line. The nib is very smooth and little wet. It writes with no bleed through and I can even write on franklin planner paper although Rhodia is my favorite paper.
JC also figured out a problem with another ASC that had dried ink inside.
Prices were very very reasonable. The expertise was exceptional and I will definitely only use JC for future nib tailoring.. Thanks again”

“Today is the start of the @SFPenShowand the launch of the newly rebranded @TheNibTailor (old NibsOnPoint). 🎉

As much as I wish I could be there with so many friends, I’m thinking of them by writing with the “Tailor” nib created for me by@TheNibTailorand which I had originally received at the 2019 SF Pen Show.🙂

The nib is actually a T shape that offers 3 writing styles in one:
• I’m standard writing angle, it’s a forgiving though still sharp architect nib. 🤩
• On reverse it’s an italic and,😍
• At a 90° angle, it writes like a standard F nib. 🥰

2 years in, I’m always excited to write and draw with this pen. I find it especially enjoyable on days in which I just want to carry one pen and practice some modern calligraphy or play around with my writing style as the mood changes. ☺️

If you have a pen that needs its nib adjusted or any grinds, I highly recommend you stop by JC @TheNibTailor’s table.”
